The DKD is situated close to the center of Wiesbaden in the "Aukammtal" health district. The clinic was opened in 1970. It is categorized as a central medical facility in the state of Hesse's Hospital Plan with a total capacity of 92 beds and 60 day clinic. It provides medical services spanning a total usable floor area of 23,000 m2. The DKD sees itself as a specialist provider of medical services focusing on interdisciplinary diagnostics. In spite of its name "Deutsche Klinik für Diagnostik" (German Diagnostic Clinic), it has always included therapy as a further area of focus. In terms of its interdisciplinary and intersectoral organizational and care structures, the DKD is traditionally innovative and has consistently been a pioneer in establishing health policy trends. Cooperation among the doctors at the clinic is collegial; more than 60 specialists from a wide range of medical disciplines work together with equal status in an interdisciplinary team with flat hierarchical structures. The organizational processes are coordinated and optimized in a flow structure. Preventive healthcare plays an especially important role at the DKD. Individual, symptom-related and risk-adapted healthcare programs are generally conducted across all disciplines in one (or maximum two) day(s) in line with acknowledged guidelines. If abnormal changes are detected, state of the art technical medical equipment is on hand, which enhances, but does not substitute the expertise offered by the medical staff.
